TAIPEI: A TransAsia Airways plane, Flight GE235, has crash landed into the Keelung River in Taipei, injuring more than 10 people. Several dead have been found, with conflicting reports having the number between two to at least nine.
#GE235 was a flight from Taipei to Kinmen. It crashed less than 3 minutes after take off. The distance between the runway where #GE235 took off and the Keelung river where it crashed at 10.56am local time is about 5 km.

The plane, TransAsia B22816, had 58 people aboard when it crash landed at 10.56am, local time, reported TVBS. Of the 58, there were 51 adults, two children and five crew members. Sixteen people have been rescued and dozens more are trapped, and rescuers are trying to reach them, reported Reuters, citing government officials. Thirty-one mainland Chinese tourists were among those on board, Taiwan’s tourism bureau said.
The plane was an ATR-72, which just arrived in Taiwan last year, reported TVBS. The plane was on a domestic flight when it hit a cab and road bridge before ploughing into the river, the AFP reported.
Taiwan’s TransAsia Airways was involved in a deadly crash in July last year, when its plane, GE222, attempted to land in stormy weather and crashed on the island of Penghu, killing 48 people and wrecking houses and cars on the ground.

TransAsia Flight 235 (GE235), an ATR72-600, has crashed during takeoff while en route from Taipei Sung Shan (TSA) to Kinmen Shang-Yi Airport (KNH), in the Fujian Province. The aircraft, reg# B-22816, was only 10 months old at the time of the crash.
Videos and photos show the aircraft at a steep angle flying over an overpass and then into the Keelung River. At the time of this update, there have been three reported passenger deaths with another few injured.
FlightRadar24.com is showing that the aircraft was only airborne for about three minutes before trying to turn back and crashing.ATC recordings state that the flight called a mayday, reporting an engine flame out (23:25 – in Mandarin).
This is not the first time that TransAsia Airways has had aircraft troubles. In 2002, an ATR 72-200 from Taipei to Macau, flight GE791, crashed due to ice conditions. It was a cargo flight and neither pilot survived. Just six months ago, another TransAsia ATR-72, flight GE222 crashed with 47 of the 58 people on board lost. Source
